Oneiric
Music
The music in Oneiric is sacred music. I love sacred music, and I don't mean Christian Rock (not that there's anything... "wrong" with that), and if I can stir some sort of interest in a few listeners, huzzah!
Note: all musical excerpts in the show are rights-free recordings of rights-free pieces. I'm super thankful to the universe that these versions exist, but let's be honest, they're not necessarily the best performances extant. Do google these pieces for yourselves if you like them, and don't hesitate to buy them.
Season 1
Episode 1: Litanies à la vierge noire et Quatre petites prières de St-François d'Assise, by Francis Poulenc.
Episode 2: Mass in D Major, by Dvořák. Here are also the Benedictus and the Agnus Dei from this stunning setting of the Ordinary Mass.
Episode 3: Le Cantique de Jean Racine, Ave Maria, and Tantum Ergo, by Gabriel Fauré.
Episode 4: Missa brevis in D Major (Kyrie, Gloria, Credo), by Mozart. I realise Wanderer calls it the Mass in D minor. He's wrong.
Episode 5: Salve Regina, by Charpentier. Alma Redemptoris Mater by the author of Oneiric.
Episode 6: Oster-Oratorium, by Bach.
Episode 7: Mass for Soprano, Baritone and Organ, Kyrie, by the author of Oneiric.
Episode 8: Weihnachtsoratorium, by Bach.
Episode 9: Stabat Mater, by Pergolesi.
Episode 10: Mass for 4 Voices by Monteverdi.
Season 2
Episode 1: Missa papae Marcelli, by Monteverdi.
Episode 2: Laudes de St-Antoine de Padoue, and Concerto pour piano et orchestre (first movement, but do listen to the other two movements by all means), by Poulenc. The second movement, though very short, is particularly fine.
Episode 3: Magnificat, by Buxtehude.
Episode 4: Mass in E minor, by Bruckner. This links to the Kyrie.
Episode 5: Te Deum, by Handel. I like the piece, don't get me wrong, but this is one of those where the dearth of rightsfree pieces to choose from makes itself felt a bit more keenly.
Episode 6: Missa ad Fugam, by Palestrina. Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus/Benedictus, Agnus Dei.
Episode 7: Die Schöpfung, by Haydn. Here's a link to the Overture.
Episode 8: Requiem, by Fauré.
Episode 9: Miserere, by Allegri.
Episode 10: Johannes-Passion, by Schütz.
Episode 10': Lux Aeterna, by the author of Oneiric.
